PRIME MINISTER TO LAUNCH REGION’S LARGEST GREEN TECHNOLOGY EXPO

IGEM 2015 to Attract 50,000 Visitors and 400 Exhibitors from Over 20 Countries

The 6th International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM 2015) themed “Powering the Green Economy”, is scheduled to be held from 9 to 12 September at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre and will be officially launched by the Prime Minister, Y.A.B. Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak.

IGEM 2015 is organised by the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA) and co-organised by Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (GreenTech Malaysia). As the region’s largest green technology business and innovation platform, IGEM 2015 is set to attract 50,000 visitors and 400 exhibitors from over 20 countries. To date, some 300 booths have been taken up by 72 exhibitors, out of which 126 booths in the form of pavilions are occupied by leading green technology companies from Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Taiwan ROC, Japan, South Korea and Singapore.

Speaking about the annual event, Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water, Y.B. Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Maximus Johnity Ongkili said the Ministry was pleased that IGEM continues to be ASEAN’s foremost green technology exhibition and conference.

The event has, since 2010, generated over RM6 billion in green business leads and has spurred the growth of the green technology sector within Malaysia and further afield through cross-country promotion and dialogues that are crucial to the progress of this nascent sector.

“We are confident that this year IGEM will once again contribute significantly to Malaysia’s socio-economic growth. Based on the growing results for the past five editions, I am confident that Malaysia will become the green technology hub in the region.

“The ministry welcomes industries and the public to join us at IGEM 2015 in order to learn about technology applications and practices to power your green business and be a part of the global green economy,” he added.

The four-day event will feature exhibits that strategically focus on the green technology sectors namely Energy, Transport, Building, Waste and Water. The confirmed exhibitors feature industry leaders such as ABB Holdings, EU-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EUMCCI), IHI Enviro Corporation (Japan), Recycle Energy Co. Ltd / CFP Corporation (Singapore) and Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association (TEEMA) as well as local companies such as First Solar Malaysia, Malaysia Solar Resources, COMOS, PROTON, TOSHIBA TEC Malaysia and Weimar Enterprise.

Apart from the exhibition, IGEM 2015 will also feature several sub-events, one of which includes the Green Financing Forum, themed “Driving Green Investment: Unleashing Public and Private Finance for Growth”. This forum is expected to create discourse centering on policies and financial instruments crucial to unlocking the potential growth of the green sector.

The line-up of speakers confirmed for the Green Financing Forum include World Bank’s Head of Derivatives and Structured Finance, Michael Bennett; UK Green Investment Bank’s Head of Sustainable Finance, Gavin Templeton; Connecticut Green Bank’s EVP & Chief Investment Officer, Bert Hunter; California Infrastructure and Economic Development Bank’s Deputy Executive Director, Ruben Rojas; Clean Energy Finance Corporation’s Chief Executive Officer, Oliver Yates; Malaysia International Islamic Financial Centre’s Director, Nik Mohamed Din Nik Musa and Malayan Banking Berhad’s Group President & Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Abdul Farid Alias.

Another key sub-event, the 3rd E-Mobilia World, which is the premier hybrid, electric, energy efficient, and future mobility conference in the ASEAN region, will be held for the first time in conjunction with IGEM. It will address key issues in the areas of sustainable mobility development, implementation and adoption, bringing together key international government agencies, academia, industries and private corporations.

This year’s IGEM will also feature the Swedish Embassy’s Renewable Energy Seminar and the Malaysia Global Business Forum’s conference and dialogue, themed “Shaping Business Green – Driving Investment”.

Speaking about IGEM, Tan Sri Peter Chin Fah Kui, Chairman of GreenTech Malaysia said, “The IGEM programme and conference topics have been thoroughly planned and reviewed to ensure that they are relevant to the development of the green technology sector in Malaysia. Ultimately, we want the annual IGEM to remain progressive, in line with global trends to maximise benefits to our participants and visitors.”

“Thus far, we are pleased to note that IGEM remains a key attraction to both local and international participants, evidently through the line-up of key exhibitors and speakers that we have confirmed for IGEM 2015,” he added.

Throughout IGEM, participants will be able to network with industry leaders, policy makers and Government officials at the various side events that will be happening concurrently. These include the ever-popular MATRADE International Business Matching, MIDA Business Consultation and One-to-one Bizmatch Programme, among others.
