SunEdison has completed construction of a 6MW solar power plant in Florida. The electricity generated by the facility, which is the third largest public power utility in the State of Florida, will be sold to Lakeland Electric via a 25-year power purchase agreement.

SunEdison has constructed four solar projects for Lakeland Electric and is developing two more. All the six projects are expected to be finished for Lakeland Electric by the end of the first quarter of 2016, and the total solar power capacity would be 24MW. With the six solar power plants, Lakeland Electric’s customers will have access to solar power for years to come.

"Our customers told us they wanted renewable energy and our partnership with SunEdison ensures this happens on time and on budget. We are excited to expand our portfolio with clean, reliable renewable energy, which will enable us to give our customers predictably priced low-cost electricity,”said Joel Ivy, Lakeland Electric's general manager.

The latest commissioned one, Bella Vista solar power plant, is expected to generate approximately 14GWh of solar power annually, enough for powering 1,300 local homes. SunEdison will offer O&M services for the Bella Vista plant, while TerraForm Power acquired it upon completion from its Call Right Projects list.
