Solar Frontier has completed the acquisition of Gestamp Solar’s 280MW US pipeline. The pipeline is comprised of the projects in various stages of development in California. Gestamp Solar is a global developer and operator of utility-scale PV plants. Solar Frontier has begun construction on some projects after the acquisition.

The acquisition adds an experienced development team to Solar Frontier’s solar business in the U.S. With a global expansion plan, Solar Frontier acquires Gestamp Solar’s US pipeline partially for establishing a platform for the U.S. market. In addition, Solar Frontier plans to strengthen its position as a comprehensive solar energy solution provider in the international markets.

Charles Pimentel has been named the CEO of Solar Frontier Americas’ new division, Solar Frontier Americas Development LLC, and Cary Vandenberg has been appointed Managing Director of the development organization. Mr. Pimentel will continue in his role as COO of Solar Frontier Americas.

Charles Pimentel, newly appointed CEO of Solar Frontier Americas Development LLC, said, “Solar Frontier is making substantial investment within the Americas and with this acquisition, we expect to build and deliver some of the highest performing solar energy projects in the industry thanks to Solar Frontier’s state-of-the-art CIS technology. Solar project investors and developers are keenly focused on long-term energy yield and they are starting to recognize and understand the value of partnering with Solar Frontier to maximize the value of their PV plants.”

Among the 280 MW pipeline, a 15MW project in Kern County, California has been started construction. The second project is a 20MW site and construction is slated to begin this quarter. Talks are underway with a select group of long-term investors regarding the sale of designated solar projects.
