Upsolar Commissions Its First Solar PV Project in Turkey

published: 2014-09-17 14:05

Upsolar, a provider of solar PV modules, announced the completion of its first major solar electric system in Turkey. Developed in partnership with local EPC Güvenli Enerji, the 51.5 kW ground-mounted PV system in Izmir was part of the Turkish government’s recent call for tenders.

The project deal was finalized in April 2014, only one month after Upsolar established an on-the-ground base in Turkey. The project, supported by the Izmir Development Agency, will produce electricity for Turla Tarim, an organic olive oil factory in Urla, Izmir.

“The commissioning of this project is a milestone in Upsolar’s expansion in the Turkish market,” said Ioannis Markatatos, Turkey and Middle East Director for Upsolar Group. “Turkey’s energy demand is growing rapidly, while the country’s unique solar market has recently come into full bloom. We see tremendous potential in the region and we look forward to expanding our network of partnerships to promote widespread adoption of solar power.”

Upsolar expects to deploy up to 29 MW of new projects across Turkey in the coming years. This project represents the company’s first step toward achieving that goal.
