USIBC Launches New Energy Security Coalition

The U.S.-India Business Council (USIBC) launched on March 10th the U.S.-India Energy Security Coalition, an alliance dedicated to removing barriers to cooperation in resource development and forging greater commercial ties between the U.S. and Indian energy sectors.

Pioneering innovations have propelled the United States to become the world’s leading producer of natural gas and a leader in alternative energy. There are now unprecedented opportunities for U.S. companies to expand internationally and collaborate with India to meet its energy security goals.

To mark the international launch, the USIBC Coalition will host U.S. Energy Secretary Dr. Ernest Moniz along with senior officials from the Government of India and industry leaders in New Delhi today.

“The Coalition will serve as the premier platform to increase cooperation between the U.S. and Indian energy industries through a series of trade missions, procurement seminars, and policy roundtables,” said Nolty Theriot, USIBC Energy Director. “USIBC sees enormous potential for India to be a global leader in all aspects of energy innovation, and USIBC member companies are proud of the significant investments they have made in the Indian market,” he continued.

As a first step, the Coalition will develop a strategic roadmap for future collaboration between the Indian and U.S. hydrocarbon and renewable energy industries. The roadmap will include opportunities for joint ventures, R&D, and training programs.

USIBC was honored to partner with the Department of Energy and Indian industry to host the industry portion of the 2012 U.S.-India Energy Dialogue in Washington, D.C. The Council looks forward to working with the United States and India to identify tangible steps that both governments and industries can take to bring energy collaboration to the next level, including in unconventional and deepwater oil and gas exploration and production, the downstream oil and gas sector, and nuclear and renewable energy.

“We believe that continuing the dialogue on energy between the United States and India will be increasingly important in the coming years as both of our countries enhance our collective energy security,” said Theriot.
